2021 has changed a lot for the fitness industry. To commitment sustaining the fitness business, we need to think different, ensure we adhere to the new state regulations and maintain social distancing. Considering all these factors running an outdoor Fitness Class is a brilliant idea.

When you run an outdoor fitness class it’s safe to say that you’re now stepping into the realm of teaching. Whether it’s yoga, zumba or something else, you’ll find that being a teacher can be rewarding and challenging at the same time. Not only do you have to keep yourself in check but you also have to keep your students motivated and focused on attaining their goals.

Benefits of outdoor fitness classes

Few people will likely argue with the fact that, in addition to the numerous health benefits, outdoor fitness classes can also be a fantastic form of relaxation. Whether you’re a fan of yoga or Zumba classes, or prefer taking part in an exercise class which involves climbing ropes or boulders, there are all sorts of reasons as to why gym exercises and routine may not be quite as good as heading outside for your next work out session.

Running an outdoor fitness program can be a very rewarding experience. Not only do you get to workout in great locations with a stunning view but it’s also the social side of the program that makes it so enjoyable. As well as keeping you active and fit, running outdoor classes is very rewarding for the instructor too. That’s why I’ve put together this post with 7 tips to help make your next run class a huge success.

So do you want to start running outdoor fitness classes this year? It’s a great idea especially if you want to do something different from the norm. The tips below are ways that you can ensure you have an optimal experience when leading outside fitness classes while producing an exceptional workout environment for your participants.

1. Getting started

The first step before deciding on a location for your outdoor fitness class is evaluating the facility’s facilities. Fitness facilities have different needs for their clients. There are things they need to ensure in order to make your class successful and enjoyable, while at the same time providing the best possible health and fitness outcomes for their clients.

In addition, you will want to consider the quality and amount of equipment available for rent or sale, the training programs offered, any special events that will take place in the facility, and any special menus that need to be prepared for your event.

2. Ideas and tips

Location: Any location is better than no location at all for an outdoor workout. The reason is simple – the experience is better when you are moving. Moreover, if you do your workout in the winter, when the weather is cold and you’re worried about getting injured, then choosing a location in the winter is even more important because the ground is slicker and icy than when you workout in the summer.

Time: Obviously you cannot schedule a class in the afternoon in summers due to the heat or very early morning sessions in winter due to the cold. You will have to consider the season of the year and weather to decide the time for your outdoor class.

Workouts types: like zumba, aerobics, bootcamps, HIIT, Yoga, Pilates

3. Promoting your class

While there are many ways to promote your outdoor class throughout the year, I recommend utilizing social media for at least five different reasons. Social media notifications help you stay connected with individuals who are interested in your outdoor related topics and programming. This way, you can send out notifications to individuals who are interested in your class 30 days prior to the class start date. Promoting through this method also allows you to reach out to individuals who may be interested in your course even if they aren’t currently enrolled or attending your class.

4. Tracking attendance

To increase a sense of accountability in attendees, trainers may check which club members showed up for a session. They can do this by using a digital attendance on club management software. This approach helps teams stay connected and in-the-know about how their attendees are doing throughout the session.

5. Safety and precautions

Safety techniques while conducting an outdoor class are essential in any activity that requires precise movement and form. Students in a fitness class should always wear their shoulder and back protectors as well as a mask if the weather is warm. They should also practice good footwork and sure hand-eye coordination. Make sure to tell students in advance if they must stay dry or take a break so they don’t waste time or energy getting dry.
